Funeral Arrangements for Robert L. Bottsford

Here is what I know concerning Mr. Bottsford’s funeral. This is the information supplied by the Bottsford Family:

Mr. Bob Bottsford’s funeral will be on Thursday, February 24th at Bessemer’s Brown Service Memorial (1300 4th Avenue N – Bessemer) (205-425-2424). Mr. Bottsford planned his own funeral two weeks ago. He will be cremated prior to the viewing. Viewing will begin at 3 P.M. (Central) and the Memorial Service will start at 6:00 P.M. The funeral service will take place in the Brown Service Memorial Chapel. The Chapel has very limited seating – approximately seating for 120.

In lieu of flowers Mr. Bottsford has requested donations be made to the Alabama Key Club District Project.

Mr. Bottsford’s obituary will be published in Wednesday’s Birmingham News.

I believe in Auburn love it

Dear Auburn Family,

As you all were, I’m sure, I was furious and angry at the news of the murder of our beloved Toomer’s Corner live oak trees. I wanted vengeance. I wanted redemption. I wanted blood. I found myself hating – HATING – the individual responsible. I could feel my blood pressure rising. Boiling. I didn’t know what else to do, so I prayed.

After praying, for no reason whatsoever, I glanced to my right, and I saw the following words on a magnet I have on the fridge…

The Auburn Creed

I believe that this is a practical world and that I can count only on what I earn. Therefore, I believe in work, hard work.

I believe in education, which gives me the knowledge to work wisely and trains my mind and my hands to work skillfully.

I believe in honesty and truthfulness, without which I cannot win the respect and confidence of my fellow men.

After reading what Dr. Petrie penned 66 years ago, I had a sense of peace, and all was well. I remembered who I was and where I came from. I am a Christian. I am a Palys. I am an Auburn man. I am incapable of hatred. To hate would make me no different that the perpetrator of the crime.

Only Auburn men and women understand what those 130 year old trees mean. They are part of history. They are part of our tradition. The Auburn Creed makes no mention of them, yet we’ll miss our beloved Toomer’s live oaks if they don’t survive this malicious and evil attack, but we will carry on. That’s what we do.

For years, we’ve been put down, kicked, made fun of, spat upon, and even hated, all because of the colors we wear during football season. Yet, time after time, we get back up. We dust ourselves off. We don’t let it shake us. We carry on. That’s what we do.

Tomorrow, I assure you, the sun will rise, and, as it always has been and always will be, it will be an ORANGE sun in a BLUE sky. In 130 years, when new trees have grown to size, and we’re all dead and gone, Auburn will still be there. No one in Auburn, Alabama will remember the name of the worthless human who committed such an atrocity, but I can guarantee EVERYONE in Auburn, Alabama will remember nine words: “I believe in Auburn and love it. War Eagle.”

Auburn and Northwestern football players are HUNGRY

Auburn and Northwestern players met for the Outback Bowl’s welcoming dinner Saturday night and didn’t get up until 750 pounds of rib-eyes, 750 pounds of chicken, 900 pounds of ribs, 700 pounds of salad, 200 pounds of green beans, 950 pounds of Bloomin’ Onions and 1,200 pounds of cheesecake were served. No word on how much Pepto was served.

Change your jailbroken iPhone’s SSH password before it’s too late!

With the number of we iPhone users jailbreaking our devices, that means iPhone security has officially become an issue. Why you ask? Well, for one, did you know that someone – ANYONE – can access your jailbroken iPhone’s file system without you even knowing? Scary huh? Well, there is a very quick and extremely secure process you can take in order to protect your iPhone. All you need to do is change the SSH password on your phone. This is done from the iPhone itself using an app from Cydia called Mobile Terminal, and it’s totally free!

Being the über geek that I am, I did this long ago, but I realize many users of a jailbroken iPhone have NOT done this. If you had a jailbroken iPhone and changed your SSH password but upgraded to iPhone OS 3.X then jailbroke it again, you MUST change your SSH password again. If you never changed it to begin with, then all you have to do is follow the steps below.

Open Cydia, and search for and install the app called MobileTerminal. It’s small, so it shouldn’t long. Once downloaded, launch it. Once open, type the command at the prompt: passwd

Now you will be prompted for your old password which, by default, is alpine. Next, enter the new password of your choice. You will then be asked to enter it again to verify.

Congratulations. You have successfully changed your iPhone SSH password. Rest assured knowing that your iPhone is now VERY secure!
